Quantum Kid

This is an Article about Matthew Greminger, A Kid who is writing a book on Quantum Physics.

KVELL CORNER: Future Physicist

Name: Matthew Greminger

Age: 15

Family: Parents Nancy and Jack; siblings, Justin, 13, Jeanne, 10, and Chelsi, 9

They're kvelling because: Matthew was inspired to begin writing a book to record his questions about life, religion, space, coincidence, the subconscious and philosophy. He documents his investigations in his manuscript “The Laws of Life: An Informative Peek at an Empty Universe.”

He thought he was the only one who had all these questions, until he saw the movie “What the (Bleep) Do We Know?” and realized his inquiries were what real physicists study. Soon he was researching protons, quarks and quantum physics, which he defines as “the physics of the unseen.”

“I was so happy other people knew what I was talking about,” he says, admitting that's it's challenging to get adults to take him seriously. An early chapter of his manuscript won an essay contest at school, and he sent a few more chapters to the filmmakers, who included a story about him on their website whatthe bleep.com.

“Whenever a topic interests me, I don't stop until I know everything about it,” he says. Attending The Virtual Schoolhouse, a computer-based school, he has more time for his independent pursuits, both scientific and creative. Matthew plays piano and collaborates with other musicians in the basement recording studio of his University Heights home.

He won an award for a photograph of Niagara Falls, and he also produces and edits music videos and designs websites. Matthew loves cooking, computers and classic cars.
